Investment Scheme Targets Manitobans
Winnipeg – The Manitoba Securities Commission (MSC) is warning the public about a potential unregistered investment scheme targeting Manitobans.  MSC investigators have information that MI Capital Corporation, has contacted Manitobans to invest in gold options. Investors should be cautious as this company is not registered to trade securities in Manitoba.Â
The New Brunswick Securities Commission has also issued a Notice of Hearing against MI Capital Corporation, One Capital Corp. Limited, Sean Ayears and Scott Parker on May 29th, 2012.
The website used by MI Capital Corporation, is essentially the same as a website used by Asean Commodities Inc (also known as Asean Finance Corporation Limited, Asean Commodities Inc. Limited and Asean Commodities Inc.). Â The Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) has posted warnings on their web site advising the public to not to deal with these businesses.
“Investors should always check with the MSC to determine whether individuals and firms offering investments are registered with the MSC,†said Len Terlinski, Investigator with the MSC. “Investors who hand over their investments to unregistered individual or firms run the risk of losing their money. Getting their money back rarely happens,” he added.
The MSC is warning Manitobans to exercise caution. You can take the following steps to protect yourself against becoming a victim of investment fraud:
- Check registration status with the Manitoba Securities Commission.
- Do not send money to someone you only know from an unsolicited phone call.
- Do not give out personal information.
- Research the investment. Be wary often promoters of these schemes reuse the same information under a different name.
- Report scams or suspicious investment information received in emails or on websites Â
